Hundreds of mourners have converged at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region to bid farewell to the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, despite an interim injunction issued by the Accra High Court seeking to suspend the funeral arrangements.

The funeral grounds were filled with sympathisers from different parts of the country, with several VIP buses conveying mourners to the venue. Workers were also seen putting finishing touches to the arrangements by setting up canopies, arranging chairs and preparing the grounds for the ceremony.

Among the personalities who attended the funeral were Kumawood actress Mercy Asiedu and fashion entrepreneur Osebo the Zaraman, who joined family members, church members, traditional authorities and admirers to honour the life of the renowned inventor, industrialist and religious leader.

The massive attendance highlights the impact Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka made through his contributions to Christianity, engineering, technology and Ghana’s industrial development.

The funeral is being held amid a legal disagreement over the organisation of the final rites. The Accra High Court on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, granted a 10-day interim injunction restraining former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo from continuing with the funeral arrangements pending the determination of a case before the court.

The court’s directive was aimed at maintaining the status quo until the substantive matter is resolved. However, activities at the funeral grounds continued, with mourners arriving and preparations progressing despite the injunction.

Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group of Companies, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s leading innovators and industrial pioneers.

Through his work in automobile production, engineering and technological innovation, he earned national and international recognition, with many celebrating him as a visionary who promoted Ghanaian creativity, self-reliance and industrial growth.

His death has generated tributes from government officials, traditional leaders, religious groups and members of the public, many of whom have acknowledged his remarkable contribution to Ghana’s technological and industrial advancement.

The legal matter concerning the funeral arrangements is expected to continue as the parties await further proceedings after the expiration of the interim injunction.
