“This sickness has put my dreams on hold” — Drogba reveals health struggles
Ghanaian actor John Peasah, popularly known as Drogba from the hit television series YOLO (You Only Live Once), has opened up about how his ongoing health challenges have disrupted his career, personal goals, and everyday life.
The actor revealed that although he is still able to move around, the pain associated with his condition has made it difficult for him to leave home regularly and continue working as he desires.
“I have a vision, but my situation has prevented me from doing many things, including pursuing my personal goals. I’m home 24/7, and it’s not because I’m bedridden. I can walk and do things, but I’m unable to go out and work because of the pain,” he said.
John Peasah, who has been diagnosed with a rare neurological condition known as Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), explained that he has sought medical assistance from several health facilities in Ghana but has not yet achieved the recovery he is hoping for.
According to the actor, he has visited about 12 hospitals, undergone numerous examinations, and received different medications as doctors continue to search for ways to manage his condition.
“I have visited about 12 hospitals for cure, and each time, they conduct tests and run diagnoses. They prescribe so many medications that after taking all of them, I feel full. So when food is served, I am unable to eat because I already feel satisfied,” he noted.
The actor, whose portrayal of Drogba in ‘YOLO’ earned him recognition among Ghanaian television audiences, said his greatest desire is to regain his health and return to his normal routine.
John Peasah is currently appealing for financial assistance to access specialised treatment outside Ghana, explaining that the required medical programme is not easily available locally. He estimates that about $88,000 is needed to support a three-month treatment plan abroad.
The actor’s situation has attracted support from fans and colleagues, with many rallying behind him as he continues his fight to overcome the condition and return to the entertainment industry.
