Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has dismissed claims made by Oda MP Akwasi Acquah regarding the chaos that erupted in Parliament during the vetting of a ministerial nominee on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Akwasi Acquah alleged that amid the fracas, Dafeamekpor’s testicles were grabbed, a claim the South Dayi MP brushed off as a “silly joke.”

In a post on his X page on February 3, 2025, Dafeamekpor urged the public to disregard the statement, calling it a complete fabrication.

Pls ignore this JOKE. It’s pure fabrication.

The altercation broke out during the vetting of ministerial nominees when the Minority caucus accused the Majority of violating an agreement to vet only four nominees that day. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in destroyed microphones, overturned tables, and damaged furniture.

Speaking to Oyerepa TV on Monday, January 3, 2025, Acquah claimed an MP had allegedly crawled under a table and squeezed Dafeamekpor’s testicles, causing him to scream in pain. However, he admitted that the supposed incident was not captured on camera.

Following the chaos, four MPs were suspended: Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (South Dayi), Alhassan Tampuli (Gushegu), and Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Weija-Gbawe).

A special parliamentary committee, led by Emmanuel Bedzrah, has been set up to investigate the incident, with a report expected in ten days.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has also directed the Clerk of Parliament to lodge a formal complaint with the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and emphasised that MPs responsible for the damage would be held financially liable for the repairs.
