Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Atwima Nwabiagya South, Michael Amoah, has launched a scathing critique of the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, describing it as a “scam” that is failing Ghanaians.
Speaking on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Mr. Amoah expressed disappointment over what he described as the silent acceptance of hardship by the public simply because their preferred political party is in power.
“Yes, Ghanaians are quiet because they’ve voted for their party and they’re in power, so they don’t care about how the economy is being governed. They show no concern,” he asserted.
Mr. Amoah pointed to recent increases in utility rates and transportation costs as evidence of poor economic management. He cited the over 17% hike in electricity tariffs and an anticipated 20% rise in GRTUC transport fares as examples of policies that are burdening ordinary citizens.
He contrasted the current situation with the performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, particularly in the cocoa sector.
According to him, the NPP consistently raised the producer price of cocoa to support farmers.
“When the NPP was in office, the price of a bag of cocoa rose from GHC660 in 2022 — a 29% increase — to GHC800 in 2023, which was another 21.21% rise. From 2023 to 2024, it jumped again from GHC800 to GHC1,380, representing over 72% increase,” he explained.
The former MCE accused the current administration of misleading Ghanaians and failing to deliver on promises of economic relief.
“They should stop deceiving us,” he said.
