Gospel musician Christiana Love Antwi, popularly known as Obaapa Christy, has revealed that she deliberately ignores online insults and provocations rather than giving attention to people who seek relevance through attacking her.

Speaking on the entertainment segment of Oyerepa Breakfast Time with Nana Ama Intsiful, Obaapa Christy said responding to trolls only gives them the publicity and followers they may be seeking.

“It’s your own issue. The more I give you attention, the more you get followers. So, if I decide not to talk, what would you do to me? I don’t have that time. If I don’t have to talk but engage my lawyers, then I do it. That is the world,” she said.

The veteran gospel musician explained that she only responds when necessary, particularly when a matter requires legal action, but otherwise chooses to focus on her work rather than engage in online confrontations.

“But if I notice that you are not important for my match, I won’t mind you. The one who has a job wouldn’t do that. I won’t give you any attention,” she added.

Obaapa Christy, who has been a prominent figure in Ghana’s gospel music scene for more than two decades, also expressed confidence that she does not need to retaliate against people who wrong her, saying she has experienced situations where those who attacked her eventually returned to apologise.

“Personally, what God has done is that, if you wrong me, you will later come to apologise by yourself. You will see and come and greet me, forgetting that you were the one who insulted me some time back. God will not leave me. He will always be with me,” she stated.

Her comments come at a time when social media has become a major platform for public figures and critics to clash, with celebrities often facing insults and personal attacks over their opinions, careers and private lives.

For Obaapa Christy, however, silence can be a more powerful response than engaging trolls, particularly when responding only serves to amplify their reach.
