Teacher arrested over Viral assault video involving female student at Nyinahini Catholic SHS
The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
“The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested! Regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Mr Fenyi wrote.
The video, which has sparked widespread public outrage, appears to show the teacher physically confronting the student while bystanders attempt to intervene.
In the footage, the teacher is seen repeatedly striking the student and, at one point, lifting and throwing her to the ground, leaving her unable to defend herself.
Voices in the background can be heard urging him to stop, with some appealing to him to consider the student’s gender. However, the teacher is heard responding, “Is she aware she is a lady?”
The circumstances that led to the confrontation remain unclear, with neither the school authorities nor the Ghana Education Service providing details on the cause of the incident.
GES has confirmed that the regional education directorate has begun an investigation into the matter and will submit a full report to headquarters for further action.
The incident has triggered renewed public concern over student safety and discipline in schools, with many calling for strict accountability measures.
Authorities say the outcome of the investigation will determine any further disciplinary or legal steps to be taken against the teacher.
