The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union has announced a nationwide strike in response to the prolonged delay in implementing a crucial service conditions framework.
During a press conference earlier today, Mr George Nyaunu, the Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, officially declared the strike. This decision follows the expiration of an ultimatum issued to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) on April 26th, 2024.
Representing thousands of tanker drivers, the Union has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to address their concerns promptly. They are calling on President Nana Akufo-Addo to intervene and ensure that the NPA expedites the implementation of the agreed-upon framework.
The strike by these essential workers is expected to impact the distribution of petroleum products nationwide significantly. With over five thousand drivers participating, disruptions in fuel supply could affect various sectors, including transportation and manufacturing.
The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union urges immediate action to resolve this impasse. As the strike continues, the government and the NPA are under increasing pressure to find a swift and effective solution.
