A Tamale High Court has sentenced former police officer General Corporal Suleman Ayuba Gbana and his accomplice, Adam Siba, to 25 years’ imprisonment with hard labour each after finding them guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery.

The two were convicted over their alleged involvement in an armed robbery incident that occurred in Tamale on April 15, 2020, during which two foreign exchange dealers were attacked and robbed of GH¢530,000 along with other foreign currencies.

According to reports by Citinewsroom.com, investigations into the case resulted in the retrieval of a Ghana Police Service pistol, 10 rounds of ammunition and three pairs of handcuffs from the residence of the former police officer.

The court, however, acquitted and discharged a third accused person, Mohammed Iddrisu, after the prosecution was unable to provide sufficient evidence linking him to the robbery.

The judgment brings an end to a six-year legal process involving one of Tamale’s notable armed robbery cases.
