Aphrodisiacs are substances that increase sexual desire, sexual attraction, sexual pleasure, or sexual behaviour.
The advertisement of Aphrodisiac drugs on both social media and mainstream media in Ghana is not only encouraging sexual immorality but also affecting the sexual organs and performance of the youth.
A lot of young Ghanaian men in recent years mostly rely on these drugs to boost their sexual drive.
But according to Bridget Ofori Yeboah, Senior Regulatory Officer of the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), the intake of unapproved drugs (Aphrodisiacs) to enhance sexual drive at a young age will have adverse effects on Ghanaian youth.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Wednesday, Bridget Ofori Yeboah indicated that, there are drugs the FDA has approved for male vitality based on age restrictions. Subsequently; there are many unauthorized drugs that are being sold and the youth are taking those Aphrodisiacs for sexual pleasure.
The FDA Senior Regulatory Officer said, the intake of those medicines to boost the sexual desires of young men, however, may harm their sexual organs or abilities in old age.
“We have registered some drugs for male vitality but there are age restrictions on them. But there is a lot we have not registered.”
“At a tender age, if you start taking some of these drugs, especially the unapproved ones, it will affect you in the future. “ She added.
She indicated that FDA is strongly campaigning for the youth to stay away from Aphrodisiacs however, it has no power to decide for users but they can make informed decisions.
“Your life is in your own hands so we can’t force you to stop taking those drugs, however, FDA is always there to educate you on these drugs in order for you to make an informed decision.” She declared.
