Numerous communities in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital are currently facing a power outage due to a recent attack on the high-tension infrastructure owned by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Suspected thieves are believed to have tampered with the bolts and nuts of one tower, causing the collapse of eight others along the transmission line from Anwomaso BSP to Akyawkrom Substation in Ejisu.
The impact of this incident has been widespread, affecting a large number of areas that rely on this crucial electrical network.
Some of the hardest-hit communities include Bekwai, Awiankwanta, Kumawu, Antoakrom, Manso Nkwanta, Jacobu Samfo-Aduam, Ejisu, Onwe, Besease, Asotwe, Abankro, Baworo, and their surrounding areas.
ECG officials are currently investigating the situation and working diligently to restore power to the affected communities.
Efforts are also being made to identify and apprehend those responsible for this act of vandalism.
A formal complaint has been filed with the Ghana Police Service for further action.
