A 30-year-old man, Ibrahim Mohammed, has been arrested for allegedly killing 62-year-old Seidu Mumuni by striking him on the head with a stick.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday night at Sehwi Yawmatwa in the Bia West District of the Western North Region.
Eyewitnesses report that Ibrahim, believed to have been under the influence of drugs, launched an unprovoked attack on Seidu Mumuni. The deceased had attempted to intervene when Ibrahim was allegedly harassing some children in the area.
In response, Ibrahim struck him on the head, inflicting fatal injuries. Seidu Mumuni was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Outraged by the act, local residents apprehended the suspect and subjected him to severe beatings before handing him over to the police. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was taken to Essam Government Hospital for medical attention under police guard.
Confirming the incident to Adom News, the Assemblyman for Sehwi Yawmatwa, Abass Mohammed Ayariga, revealed that Ibrahim had long been a menace to the community, particularly when under the influence of drugs.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the incident, while Seidu Mumuni’s body has been deposited at the Essam Government Hospital morgue.
