A 52-year-old steel bender accused of attacking a carpenter with a machete over a suspected romantic rivalry has been remanded into police custody.
Kojo Senagbe pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing unlawful harm.
The case, presided over by Mr. Kwabena Obiri Yeboah, was adjourned to June 6, 2025, to allow the prosecution time to file disclosures ahead of trial.
Chief Inspector Belinda Asante, leading the prosecution, identified the complainant as Oliver Zinto. She stated that both the complainant and the accused reside at Community 14 Annexe in Lashibi.
According to the prosecution, on May 10, 2025, at around 10:30 p.m., Zinto was walking home when he was suddenly confronted by Senagbe, who ordered him to stop. Sensing trouble, Zinto ignored the order and continued walking.
Senagbe allegedly responded by attacking Zinto with a machete, inflicting wounds to his scalp, left ear, arm, and back. Despite his injuries, Zinto reportedly mustered the strength to overpower his attacker and seize the weapon.
He was later rescued by bystanders and given first aid. Senagbe fled the scene.
A report was lodged at the Klagon Police Station, and Zinto was issued a medical form for treatment, which he submitted upon completion.
Two days later, on May 12, 2025, Senagbe was arrested. In a caution statement before an independent witness, he admitted to the attack, reportedly stating he acted out of anger because Zinto had “taken over” his girlfriend.
The machete used in the assault was retrieved during police investigations.
