The Supreme Court has rejected James Gyakye Quayson’s request for a review of their decision to declare his election as Member of Parliament of Assin – North in 2020 as unconstitutional.
In a unanimous ruling today, a nine-member panel of the highest court determined that the application did not meet the criteria for review outlined in the 1992 Constitution and the Supreme Court rules.
Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo delivered the court’s decision, stating that many of the arguments presented by Mr Quayson in his application were simply a repetition of those made in the original case.
Furthermore, the court concluded that some of the grounds for review were merely disagreements the applicant had with the court’s judgment, which did not qualify as exceptional circumstances warranting a review in favour of the MP.
