Director at the Centre for Plant Medicine Research, Akuapem-Mampong, Professor Alex Asase has urged the government to show a keen interest in plant medicine to the advantage of most Ghanaians.
Speaking at the 2nd Oku Ampofo Memorial Conference in Accra, he said herbal medicine has been part and parcel of every Ghanaian since creation, therefore government must take a keen interest.
According to him, it will be prudent if the standard of Herbal is improved so it can gain recognition both locally and internationally and help drive the economy of the country.
Professor Alex Asase alluded that the COVID-19 pandemic is a blessing in disguise, for making the government venture into domestic vaccine production which the Centre for Plant Medicine Research are willing to lead.
Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare presidential advisor on health explained that natural product research can play a significant role in driving economic transformation in various ways.
Additionally, natural products, which include substances derived from plants, animals, and microorganisms, have been used for centuries in traditional medicine, agriculture, and various industries.
