A student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School who was attacked during a district inter-schools athletics competition has spoken publicly about the incident, insisting he did nothing to trigger the assault.
The incident occurred on February 19, 2026, during an inter-school athletics event in Agona Swedru and involved students from Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS).
In an interview with TV3 Ghana, the victim explained that the attack happened suddenly while he was trying to address a minor health concern.
According to him, he had been searching for a place to sit so he could apply medication to his eye when he was struck.
“They started throwing stones at me while I was looking for somewhere to sit and use my eye medicine. It happened unexpectedly,” he recounted.
He said he was unaware of any rising tension at the time and only sensed danger when he saw his colleagues running.
“I wasn’t paying attention. When I turned around and saw my colleagues running, I didn’t understand what was going on. Before I knew it, a stone hit me,” he said.
The student emphasized that he had no prior confrontation with anyone and described the attack as completely unprovoked.
When asked what action should be taken against those responsible, he called for decisive measures.
“I want them arrested, and whatever action the government decides to take should be carried out,” he stated.
Following the incident, the Ghana Education Service (GES) confirmed that three students have been arrested in connection with the assault.
The Central Regional Director of Education, Dr Juliette Dufie Otami, disclosed the arrests in an interview with JoyNews on February 23, 2026.
Reports indicate that tensions between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and SWESBUS escalated into a physical confrontation, disrupting the athletics competition.
The incident has since raised concerns about student discipline and security arrangements at inter-school events.
