“Stop insulting politicians; no one cares when you’re arrested” — Afia Schwarzenegger
Ghanaian media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger, has cautioned young political activists against using social media to attack or threaten political leaders, saying they risk facing the consequences while the politicians they defend remain free.
Her comments followed the reported arrest of TikTok personality Bawumia Ba, amid controversy over alleged comments directed at political figures.
In a video shared on August 7, 2026, Afia Schwarzenegger argued that political campaigning can be done without personal attacks, insults or threats against politicians and their relatives.
“A female TikToker was arrested and I heard she will be given two or three years. Can’t you campaign for your party on camera without insulting anyone? Your party is not in power, but you’ve decided to fool around,” she said.
She urged political supporters to consider the personal consequences of their actions, stressing that the children of political leaders are unlikely to bear the punishment when activists get into trouble.
“If you live your life like me, you will suffer. I always advise people not to be like me, but they don’t listen. Those who insult the leaders on camera don’t even send a message across,” she stated.
Afia also questioned the logic behind threatening political leaders and their spouses, asking whether the same activists would accept similar treatment directed at their own families.
“You’re there threatening the President and his wife, but will you allow someone to threaten your child? Use your head wisely because none of Akufo-Addo’s children are in a police cell. None of the party leaders have their children locked up in cells,” she shared.
The outspoken personality further challenged activists to consider what they personally gain from aggressively defending politicians, pointing to the continued public attention surrounding businessman and politician Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, despite his reported arrest.
“The last time they were in power, what did they do for you? When they come into power again, what will they do for you? As Wontumi was arrested, we still mention him even in his absence. But as for you, how many times do they mention you?” she questioned.
She concluded with a warning that political affiliation may not shield social media users from legal consequences.
“You all should keep fooling, and Mahama is also ready to arrest all of you,” she added.
Afia Schwarzenegger’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over the boundaries of political expression on social media, particularly as political debates increasingly move online and young activists become more vocal in defending their preferred parties and candidates.
