Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is set to meet with the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Petroleum Commission, Victoria Emeafa Hardcastle, today, January 30.
The meeting follows a heated exchange between Ms. Hardcastle and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, during the vetting of Dr. Omane Boamah as Defense Minister-Designate on Tuesday, January 28.
The altercation has sparked discussions within political and legislative circles, prompting Annoh-Dompreh to formally petition the Speaker, urging him to take “consequential actions” before the Privileges Committee is constituted. He described the incident as an “unprovoked attack” against him in his capacity as a lawmaker and called for immediate intervention.
In response, Speaker Bagbin acknowledged the seriousness of the matter and assured Parliament that he would meet with Ms. Hardcastle to hear her perspective before moving forward with the formation of the Privileges Committee.
The closed-door meeting aims to provide clarity on the incident and guide the Speaker’s next course of action in resolving the dispute.
