Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA and a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Afigya Kwabre South in the Ashanti Region, has called on Ghana’s Vice President, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, to break her silence on two pressing national issues involving prominent women.
In a Facebook post that has attracted widespread attention, COKA urged the Vice President to publicly condemn what he describes as targeted actions against women in high positions.
“Madam Vice President, please speak out against the impeachment of the Chief Justice and the delay in declaring the Ablekuma North results, as they are all women,” he wrote.
COKA’s statement comes amid growing public debate over the attempted impeachment of Ghana’s Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. Critics have described the process as politically motivated, while some legal experts and civil society groups see it as an attack on judicial independence.
Additionally, the delay in declaring the results of the Ablekuma North parliamentary primary—where a female candidate reportedly emerged victorious—has raised concerns. Observers question whether the delay stems from internal party politics or deeper systemic issues.
Known for his outspoken nature and advocacy within the NPP, COKA emphasised the importance of supporting women in leadership, particularly in a political climate where their roles are often undermined or politicised.
