President John Dramani Mahama has raised serious concerns about the state of the nation, acknowledging that Ghana’s economy is in crisis and citizens are facing severe hardships.
Delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term before Parliament on Thursday, February 27, he stressed the urgency of addressing the country’s economic downturn.
“The state of our nation is not good. Our economy is in crisis, and our people are suffering,” he declared.
He attributed the current challenges to rising inflation, mounting debt, and a struggling private sector, noting that these factors have led to increased unemployment and a declining standard of living for many Ghanaians.
Despite these difficulties, President Mahama assured Parliament and the nation that his administration is committed to stabilizing the economy and alleviating the burdens on citizens.
“We cannot ignore the struggles of our people. My administration is committed to implementing bold reforms that will restore economic stability and bring relief to households and businesses,” he affirmed.
He emphasized the need for strategic policies to strengthen local industries, enhance revenue generation, and effectively manage public debt, signaling his government’s resolve to drive economic recovery and national progress.
