Somalia has called for a UN investigation after five Somalis were found frozen to death at the border between Turkey and Greece earlier this month.
Somalia urged the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, to investigate the deaths.
The nation was “deeply saddened” by the deaths and offered “heartfelt” condolences to the families of the victims, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said 12 migrants “pushed back” by Greece froze to death in his country’s north-western Edirne province.
Turkish media and officials often accuse Greece of pushing back migrants in waters close to Turkey.
In December 2020, Soylu accused Greece of ”torturing” and ”murdering” migrants through the alleged pushbacks.
Greece has denied the accusations.
