Six-year-old boy drowned in uncovered water tank at Kasoa

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has expressed its condolences to the family of a six-year-old boy who drowned in an open water storage tank at Kasoa Wallantu in the Central Region.

The incident occurred at a compound house located at House Number CB 180, where the child, identified as Godfred Aboagye, reportedly drowned after falling into an uncovered water tank.

According to the GNFS, it received a distress call at about 5:03 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025. A rescue team was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene within ten minutes.

On arrival, officers found that the child had already drowned in the tank. Rescue personnel swiftly retrieved the body at approximately 5:28 p.m., after which it was handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigations.

Preliminary information indicates that the boy was playing with a ball when it fell into the water tank. In an attempt to retrieve it, he reportedly entered the tank and drowned.

Following the tragedy, the GNFS has cautioned parents, guardians and property owners to ensure that all water storage facilities—including tanks, wells and pits—are securely covered, particularly in homes where children live or play.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to public safety education on drowning prevention and urged the public to promptly report emergencies through the national emergency lines to enable rapid response.
