The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Sunday, June 21, 2026, carried out emergency rescue operations in response to multiple road traffic accidents across the Volta Region, rescuing 34 victims while six people lost their lives.

The first incidents occurred along the Todome stretch near Kpeve on the Peki–Kpeve Road. Personnel from the Peki Fire Station responded to two separate crashes after receiving a distress call at 12:53 GMT.

One of the accidents involved a MAN Diesel TGS truck, with registration number GT 9993-18, travelling from Tema to Tamale, and a Toyota Camry, registration number GE 735-14, travelling from Nkwanta to Accra.

All five occupants of the two vehicles, comprising four males and one female, had already been rescued before firefighters arrived at the scene. Both vehicles sustained partial damage.

The second crash involved a Metro Mass Transit bus, registration number AS 4984-09, which was travelling from Accra to Dambai with 28 passengers on board.

Firefighters successfully extricated and rescued 24 victims, made up of seven males and 17 females, who were transported to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.

Sadly, four people — one male and three females — were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigations.

In a separate incident, a rescue team from the Ho Regional Fire Headquarters responded to another road crash at the Ho Civic Centre following a distress call received at 13:04 GMT.

Led by ADO II Seth Sarfo, the team arrived within two minutes and immediately commenced rescue operations.

The collision involved a Hyundai Mighty truck with registration number GE 342-11, a Pragya tricycle with registration number 26-VR 455, and an unregistered motorbike.

A total of 10 victims were rescued and transported to the Ho Municipal Hospital and Ho Teaching Hospital for medical care.

Subsequent reports from the hospitals confirmed that two of the injured males later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll from the day’s accidents to six.

The vehicles involved sustained varying degrees of damage, while investigations are ongoing to determine the causes of the crashes.
