Ghanaian musician Francisca Gawugah Duncan Williams, popularly known as Sista Afia, has opened up about her concerns surrounding motherhood, revealing that her greatest fear is becoming a single mother rather than raising children within the kind of committed family she has always desired.

In a post on X, the “Jeje” hitmaker said she is not opposed to motherhood but fears finding herself raising a child without the love, commitment and family structure she hopes to build.

“Seeing how many single mothers there are in this generation honestly scares me. I’m not afraid of motherhood, but I’m afraid of becoming a single mother or just a ‘baby mama’ without the love, commitment, and family I always envisioned. I want to build a home, not just have a child. And honestly, that fear scares the hell out of me,” she posted.

Her candid remarks have sparked conversations about relationships, marriage and the growing concerns some young people have about entering parenthood without a stable partnership.

The post also attracted reactions from social media users, with some discussing communication and commitment challenges in modern relationships, while others urged people to be cautious about promises of lifelong stability.

For Sista Afia, however, the issue appears to go beyond simply having children. Her comments suggest that she wants motherhood to be part of a committed family life rather than an experience she has to navigate alone.
