Ghanaian music producer and musician Morris Babyface has opened up about a traumatic childhood experience, revealing that he was sexually abused by a female house help when he was between nine and 10 years old.

The 46-year-old producer made the revelation during an interview on The Delay Show, recounting how the abuse allegedly occurred while his mother was away at work.

According to Morris Babyface, the woman, who was then in her late 20s or early 30s, was employed by his mother to care for him and his siblings after school. He said she would sometimes call him into her room and sexually abuse him.

“Whenever we returned from school, my mum would not be home yet from work,” he recounted. “She, this house help, would do her work by taking care of us, feed us and all that and later, she would go to her room, call me, and have sex with me.”

Morris Babyface said the abuse occurred repeatedly and had a psychological effect on him.

“She sexually abused me; it affected me. She did this with me frequently,” he said.

He explained that, as a child, he kept the experience to himself and only told his mother years later after he had become an adult.

“I never told my mum at the time. I only told her when I came of age now,” he disclosed.

Morris Babyface said he has since lost track of the woman and does not know where she is or whether she is still alive.

“I have no idea of the whereabouts of this abuser. I don’t know whether she’s dead or alive,” he said.

The revelation has also prompted Morris Babyface to challenge the perception that sexual abuse is primarily a problem affecting girls. He stressed that boys can equally become victims, particularly in situations where they may struggle to recognise or report what happened to them.

“Usually, the narrative is that girls are the only victims; but that’s untrue. Boys are also sexually abused,” he said.

“I’m saying this so that parents will be vigilant and pay critical attention to their children,” he added.

Morris Babyface did not disclose the identity of the woman during the interview. His account has renewed attention on the need for parents and guardians to take reports or signs of abuse involving children seriously, regardless of the victim’s gender.
