ShattaFest UK cancelled after tragic incident near venue
Organisers of ShattaFest UK, the flagship event headlined by Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, have cancelled this year’s show after a serious incident was reported near the event venue.
A statement issued by Shatta Wale’s management explained that the decision was taken to protect patrons, insisting that the safety of everyone present outweighed every other consideration.
“It is with a very heavy heart that we address the unfortunate events surrounding ShattaFest UK. Following reports of a serious incident outside the venue, the difficult decision was made to cancel the event. Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of every single person who came to celebrate music, unity, and love,” the statement said.
Management disclosed that it had received reports of injuries and an alleged loss of life but noted that it was awaiting official confirmation from the relevant authorities before commenting further on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the individuals involved, their families, their friends, and everyone impacted by this heartbreaking incident,” the statement added.
The organisers also urged the public and sections of the media to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue, stressing that updates should come only from the appropriate authorities. They further expressed appreciation to emergency responders, security officers, medical personnel, venue officials, and everyone who assisted during the emergency.
Shatta Wale’s management thanked supporters who had travelled to attend the event and assured them that the artiste and the entire Shatta Movement team would fully cooperate with investigators and event partners until the matter is resolved.
ShattaFest has become one of Shatta Wale’s signature events, attracting thousands of fans with performances celebrating his music and the Shatta Movement brand. However, this year’s edition ended unexpectedly as organisers shifted their attention from entertainment to the welfare of those affected.
Concluding the statement, management said, “This is not the outcome anyone wished for. Today, our focus is not on a concert; it is on the people whose lives have been affected.”
