Award-winning Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, is preparing to take on a different role after accepting an invitation to speak to students at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on the commercial side of the music industry.

The musician is expected to deliver a lecture focused on music marketing, branding, digital promotion and entrepreneurship in the entertainment business, drawing from his years of experience building one of Ghana’s most influential music brands.

The invitation was extended by the Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, who believes Shatta Wale’s journey offers valuable lessons for students, particularly those hoping to build careers within the creative economy.

Explaining the decision, Professor Mawutor praised the artiste’s understanding of digital promotion and his ability to transform his music career into a successful business venture.

“I want Shatta Wale to come and address UPSA students. I’d love for him to share his business knowledge and how he learned to make music using the internet,” he said.

Shatta Wale welcomed the invitation almost immediately. In a Facebook post on July 7, 2026, he confirmed his participation and announced that he would be on campus in September.

“UPSA 💎 SEPTEMBER 🙏 Thank you, Vice Chancellor. 🙏 I will be there. 🙏💜,” he responded.

His upcoming engagement at UPSA reflects the growing recognition of the creative arts as a viable business discipline, with universities increasingly inviting accomplished industry figures to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world experience. The event is expected to give students firsthand insight into branding, innovation and the business strategies behind sustaining a successful entertainment career.
