Shatta Wale sues Prisywan over ‘mental health’ and ‘confused artiste’ comments

Ghanaian dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has threatened legal action against social media personality Priscilla Kyeremaa, known as Prisywan, over remarks she made about his mental health and character in a TikTok video.

In a letter dated September 10, 2026, lawyers representing Shatta Wale, Porta Legis Consultancy, accused Prisywan of making statements they consider defamatory and damaging to the musician’s reputation.

The dispute stems from a TikTok video published on Prisywan’s account, “prisywan1,” on August 29, shortly after Shatta Wale appeared in an interview with broadcaster Serwaa Amihere on August 28.

In the video, Prisywan told the dancehall artiste: “Shatta, I am so sorry. I am sorry for saying this, but you have to take your mental health seriously. Like, you need to prioritise it.”

She also referred to him as a “confused artiste,” comments which Shatta Wale’s lawyers argue could lead viewers to believe that the musician was suffering from mental health problems.

Porta Legis Consultancy said its client considers the statements “false, malicious, reckless and seriously injurious” to his reputation, dignity, character and career.

The lawyers further argued that the controversy was amplified after the video was circulated by bloggers and other social media users, taking the comments beyond Prisywan’s immediate audience.

They also raised concerns about what they described as a repeated pattern of public commentary by Prisywan about Shatta Wale and his brand. The lawyers cited previous complaints allegedly made to the Police by some of the artiste’s colleagues over similar conduct.

According to the legal letter, the timing of the video was also significant because it appeared online just a day after Shatta Wale’s interview with Serwaa Amihere. His lawyers said this gave him “reasonable grounds to believe that it was deliberately made in response to the interview and with the intention of ridiculing, discrediting and damaging his reputation.”

The lawyers further claimed that the controversy had potential business consequences, alleging that a meeting Shatta Wale was scheduled to have with investors on August 31 was cancelled after the publication and subsequent circulation of the video.

They stressed, however, that Shatta Wale does not consider criticism itself to be a problem.

“As a public figure, he accepts that his views and conduct may attract public scrutiny. What our Client objects to is the publication of statements and insinuations concerning his mental health and character which are false and damaging and which, when communicated to a wide audience, are capable of exposing him to ridicule, contempt and reputational injury,” the lawyers stated.

Prisywan has been given 48 hours from receipt of the letter to take down the disputed video and remove any other publications containing similar allegations.

Shatta Wale’s legal team is also demanding an unconditional retraction and apology, with the apology to be published on Prisywan’s TikTok account and any other platforms where the alleged comments were shared.

The lawyers want her to undertake not to repeat or republish what they consider false or defamatory statements about the musician.

They have warned that failure to comply could trigger court proceedings, including a possible claim for damages, an injunction and legal costs.

The development adds another legal dimension to the growing public dispute between Shatta Wale and Prisywan, with the musician’s lawyers making it clear that they intend to pursue the matter if their demands are not met.
