Ghanaian rapper, YPee, has expressed his admiration for the self-proclaimed Ghanaian Dancehall King, Shatta Wale, for his efforts in championing the cause of the country’s music industry.
YPee credits Shatta Wale with saving the careers of many other musicians through his relentless advocacy.
YPee also acknowledges that Shatta Wale’s activism has helped to level the playing field for Ghanaian musicians, who were previously paid significantly less than their Nigerian counterparts in their own country. Thanks to Shatta Wale’s efforts, Ghanaian musicians are now receiving the recognition and compensation they deserve.
“People just come from Nigeria and we give them huge sums of money. But Shatta Wale’s fights helped all these while when he was throwing shades. When it comes to Shatta Wale and issues he raised about the industry, you could see how passionate he is and the things he says are true”. Rapper YPee told Fiifi Pratt in an interview on Kingdom FM monitored by MyNewsG.com.
YPee disclosed that certain artists in Ghana have not shown support for Shatta Wale due to their financial struggles, causing them to accept any meagre payment for performances.
The rapper from Kumasi emphasized that he has consistently stood by Shatta Wale in his efforts to revive the music industry.
“I support him but you see somebody may need just something small to survive so anything you offer him, he will accept it. If he is supposed to take for instance GHC 30,000 for a show, because he needs money, he will accept GHC5000 so such a person cannot support Shatta Wale.” YPee said.
