Ghanaian digital commentator Abdul Gafaru Sani, widely known in media circles as Webkid and a staunch supporter of the Shatta Movement, has spoken publicly for the first time following his release from custody after more than a month behind bars.
Webkid was taken into police custody on May 7, 2026, in Tema after allegations were filed by award-winning Ghanaian dancehall artist Livingston Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy. He was accused of spreading false information and engaging in conduct deemed capable of disturbing public peace, linked to posts allegedly published on his X (formerly Twitter) account that targeted the musician and his family.
After spending 41 days in detention, he was granted bail by the Accra High Court on June 22, 2026, set at GH¢100,000 with two sureties. His release triggered celebration within his supporter base, especially among fans of dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known globally as Shatta Wale.
In a video circulated by entertainment PR personality Sammy Flex, Webkid appeared visibly emotional as he knelt in gratitude, publicly acknowledging those who supported him during his legal ordeal. He specifically credited Shatta Wale for standing by him throughout the period.
He said, “I want to thank the man himself, Shatta Wale, for being the voice of the voiceless, the father of the fatherless, for being the voice of the streets, for supporting me strongly, and for even recording a song for me.”
He also extended appreciation to the judiciary, his lawyers, Sammy Flex, Long John, and other allies who contributed to his release, stressing that the experience reshaped his understanding of loyalty and support.
“Family is not always about blood, but in moments like this, I truly felt its meaning. I am finally out. Thank you for the love and support,” he added.
During his detention period, Shatta Wale publicly rallied behind him, releasing a dedicated track titled “Webkid (Shatta Music)” on May 12, 2026, and later appearing at the Accra High Court with his management team on the day bail was secured. His presence, alongside a crowd of Shatta Movement supporters, created a dramatic scene that further amplified the case in the public eye.
