Associate Professor at KNUST’s School of Public Health, Prof. Easmon Otupiri, has emphasised the need for parents to mould their adolescent children constantly. He noted that the current tech-savvy generation requires parents to be extra vigilant to prevent teenage pregnancy.
Prof. Easmon Otupiri was speaking at a national dissemination and learning event on Adolescent Sexual and reproductive health exemplars organized by KNUST, School of Public Health, GHS and AFIDEP held at Erata Hotel in Accra.
He called on the government to integrate comprehensive sexuality education into the Ghana Education Service (GES) curriculum, tailored to Ghanaian culture and values. This, he believes, will empower adolescents with knowledge about the risks of teenage pregnancy.
Prof. Easmon Otupiri, also the Principal Investigator, highlighted the increased enrollment of adolescents in Senior High School since the introduction of Free SHS, stressing the need for comprehensive sexuality education in schools.
This, he said, will provide adolescents with access to a range of methods and high-quality counseling services, ultimately reducing the incidence of teenage pregnancy.
