Selina Boateng reveals 3 things she would do differently before remarrying
Ghanaian gospel singer Selina Boateng has shared some hard lessons from her failed marriage, urging prospective couples to prepare for the realities of married life rather than being carried away by the glamour surrounding weddings.
The “Nyame Bohye” hitmaker, whose six-year marriage to Isaac Berchie ended after they tied the knot on December 7, 2019, said patience would be one of the first qualities she would emphasise to anyone preparing to marry.
According to Selina Boateng, marriage can become extremely difficult, describing the experience as “war” while stressing that she was speaking from personal experience rather than trying to discourage people from getting married.
“If I am to advise individuals getting into a new marriage, I would tell them that patience is very important because when you get there, it can be war. I’m not saying this to scare anyone, but I’m speaking from what I know and what I have experienced. People often want to get married because of the fancy aspects while neglecting the difficult side of marriage,” she stated.
She further argued that marriage requires wisdom and resilience because the reality of living with a partner can be far more demanding than the glamorous wedding ceremonies many people aspire to have.
Selina also believes marriage counselling should continue well beyond the period before the wedding. She said couples should keep learning and seeking guidance as their relationships evolve.
“If I had my way, counselling would not be limited to just six months. It should be a continuous process because marriage is like school. You never really finish learning; at every stage, there is something new to learn,” she stated.
Her final piece of advice is for people to make God-fearing character a priority when choosing a spouse. She also cautioned against rushing into marriage because of age, pressure from friends or the feeling that everyone around them is settling down.
Selina confirmed in 2025 that her marriage to Isaac Berchie had ended, but she has maintained that she is not ashamed of being divorced and has not allowed the separation to define her.
Her reflections now offer a candid perspective on marriage from someone who has experienced both its joys and difficulties, with her message centred on preparation, patience and faith rather than the glamour of the wedding day.
