In a significant boost to education infrastructure in the Sekyere Afram Plains District, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Abubakar Issaka, has commissioned a newly constructed 3-unit classroom block for the Mempekasa community, officially establishing a Junior High School (JHS) for the area.
The modern school facility comprises three fully furnished classrooms, a staff common room, a head teacher’s office, and a store room — all designed to enhance effective teaching and learning in the community. The project marks a major milestone in the district’s efforts to improve access to quality education in rural areas.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Abubakar Issaka expressed delight at the successful completion of the project and urged the community, teachers, and students to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to preserve the facility for generations to come. He further emphasized the need to address pupil absenteeism, which he described as a critical issue affecting academic performance across the district.
“We cannot continue to invest in education while our children are left roaming. This school must not only serve as a learning center but also as a symbol of discipline, accountability, and community pride,” the DCE said.
District Engineer, Mr. Hayford Kwame Sefah, provided technical insight into the project and confirmed that the contractor delivered exactly as specified — a fully completed 3-unit classroom block with all auxiliary facilities.
“The contractor was tasked to build a 3-unit classroom block, a staff common room, a store room, and a head teacher’s office — and that’s exactly what we see here today,” Mr. Sefah stated.
Representing the District Education Director, Mr. Kingsley Adu Ampomah commended the Assembly for prioritizing education and echoed the DCE’s call for proper maintenance. “This is a significant investment. Let us protect it so it can serve this community for decades,” he said.
The Chief of Mempekasa, visibly overjoyed, praised the government for delivering what he described as a “huge educational legacy” for the people of Mempekasa. He pledged the community’s commitment to safeguarding the facility and supporting efforts to improve school attendance and performance.
The commissioning of the new JHS is expected to drastically reduce the distance children in Mempekasa have to travel to access junior high education and will serve as a cornerstone for future educational progress in the area.
