Sack MMDCEs complicit in galamsey – Coalition urges President Mahama

The Coalition Against Galamsey Ghana has called on the government to take drastic measures to fight illegal mining in the country.

At a press conference, the coalition appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to declare a state of emergency in galamsey-prone areas.

Convenor of the Coalition Against Galamsey Ghana, Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey, emphasized that all MMDCEs in districts and municipalities where illegal mining activities persist must be sacked by President Mahama to serve as a deterrent.

Ashigbey also demanded that these MMDCEs be investigated for their alleged roles in environmental crimes resulting from galamsey.

Additionally, Ashigbey urged the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tetteh Yohonu, to transfer all district police commanders in galamsey-affected districts, citing allegations that some provide security protection to galamsey kingpins.
