Suspected robbers have raided the Sokoban Krofrom Palace in the Ashanti Region, making away with the revered traditional ‘black stool’ and other valuable items.
According to members of the Adumasa family, a group of heavily built men stormed the palace while the newly installed chief and family members were at the Manhyia Palace swearing the oath of allegiance.
By the time they returned, the palace had been ransacked, and the sacred stool had been stolen.
In Akan culture, the black stool is a powerful symbol of authority, leadership, and spirituality. It embodies the history, traditions, and values of the royal family, making its theft a deeply significant loss.
Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying ordeal, describing how six armed men, wielding machetes and guns, forcefully broke through the palace’s metal gate before looting the premises.
“Our elderly men who tried to resist them were beaten mercilessly, while we, the women, could only mourn as they took away our valuables,” a distressed family member told Adom News.
The robbers also vandalized doors and other parts of the palace, leaving the royal household in a state of fear.
Family members are now urging security agencies to act swiftly to recover the stolen stool and ensure justice is served.
Meanwhile, the police have visited the scene and launched an investigation into the attack.
