The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has advised road contractors to stop blaming unfavourable weather for delays in completing construction projects, stressing that seasonal conditions should be factored into project planning.

Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing road rehabilitation works in Jasikan, Dodo Pepesu, Nkwanta and Dambai, the Minister urged contractors to adopt realistic construction schedules that account for changing weather patterns and ensure projects are delivered on time.

The inspection formed part of his nationwide assessment of road projects in the Eastern, Volta and Oti regions.

Mr. Agbodza acknowledged that heavy rainfall can temporarily affect construction activities but maintained that experienced contractors should anticipate such challenges and organise their work to minimise disruptions.

He explained that proper planning includes carrying out critical stages of construction during favourable weather to allow adequate time for road surfaces to stabilise before the onset of the rainy season.

“The weather does not change anything. You just have to know the right period to carry out the work so that you allow enough time for it to settle before the rains,” he said.

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering quality road infrastructure within agreed timelines and called on contractors to uphold high standards of professionalism, efficiency and accountability. He added that timely completion of road projects is essential to improving transportation and supporting the country’s development goals.
