Residents and food vendors in Antoa, located in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region, are urgently calling on road contractors to expedite construction work as dust pollution severely impacts their health and livelihoods.
The persistent dust from the ongoing road project has contaminated food and other goods, leading to a sharp decline in sales. Many vendors say their businesses are on the brink of collapse due to customers avoiding the area.
Speaking to Sompa FM, affected residents expressed frustration over the contractors’ failure to regularly water the road to control the dust, despite repeated appeals.
“The dust is making life unbearable. Our food is constantly contaminated, and customers no longer buy from us,” a distressed vendor lamented. “We have asked them to water the road frequently, but they are not listening to us.”
Beyond the economic impact, the dust has also triggered health concerns, with many residents reportedly suffering from respiratory issues due to prolonged exposure.
With conditions worsening, the community is urging the contractors and relevant authorities to take immediate action to mitigate the pollution and safeguard their well-being.
