Concerned residents of Offinso Sakam are calling on authorities to take immediate action to address the alarming rate of vehicle knockdowns involving school children in the area.
In recent months, the community has witnessed a surge in road accidents resulting in serious injuries and fatalities among school-going children.
Just last week on Thursday, September 19, 2024, the same accident happened again at the school junction where we lost our beloved brother, leaving behind a family of children and widows. Residents attribute the accidents to reckless driving, poor road conditions, and inadequate traffic management.
“We can’t continue to lose our children to these avoidable accidents,” said Mallam Abass PRO for Sakam Youth Association. “Something needs to be done urgently to protect our children as they go to and from school.”
“The MCE, Hon. Kingsley Appiah, promised cement and iron roads, but it’s all lies. No progress has been made. A car killed our brother, and when we reminded him to act, he argued and fled, sending soldiers to brutalize us. They beat us mercilessly, forcing some to flee into the bush. This is unacceptable.” They told Oyerepa News’ Dominic Duut in an interview.
The residents are demanding improved road safety measures, including the installation of speed bumps, pedestrian crossings, and increased police presence.
“We beg the government and authorities to hear our cry. We’ve lost loved ones, suffered injuries, and endured trauma. We need safe roads, not empty promises and military violence.” They said.
