The Minister for National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, emphasized the critical importance of civil servants upholding loyalty to the State and avoiding succumbing to partisan influences that could jeopardize national security interests.
He highlighted the severe consequences of actions such as leaking sensitive documents and collaborating with internal or external actors for partisan purposes, as they not only put the State at risk but also undermine public trust in its security capabilities.
During the 2024 Civil Service Week celebration in Accra, themed “Combating Threats to Sub-Regional Peace and Security: Perspectives of the Civil Service,” Kan-Dapaah stressed the vital role of an efficient Civil Service system in addressing human security challenges and mitigating the drivers of radicalization. Drawing lessons from neighbouring West African States, he emphasized the importance of Civil Service personnel in safeguarding peace and stability in Ghana.
Mr. Kan-Dapaah urged civil servants to actively engage in security matters and familiarize themselves with the National Security Strategy. He emphasized the need for the Civil Service to adopt the strategy as a tool for evaluating the performance and individual responsibilities of civil servants in maintaining peace, security, and stability.
“To eschew all forms of corruption, in the country, civil servants must at all times uphold their fidelity to the State and guard against partisan dictates that have the potential to influence them to act in injurious ways that can affect the national security interests of the State. ”
Engaging in activities such as leaking sensitive documents that could compromise the security of the State, and collaborating with internal and external agents to pursue a partisan agenda of narrow interests, not only endanger the State but also erode public confidence in the State’s ability to address security threats.
“An efficient Civil Service system that shapes the actions of government towards addressing the aforementioned human security challenges through the protection of the public purse and ensuring value-for-money implementation of projects that address development gaps automatically contributes to the mitigation of the primary drivers of radicalization,” he added.
Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, the Head of Civil Service, emphasized the significance of the Awards Ceremony in acknowledging the accomplishments of civil servants. He praised the awardees for their commitment and encouraged them to maintain their high level of service to the nation.
