Former Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency, Dr. Samiu Kwadwo Nuamah, has expressed concern over what he describes as the declining quality of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs in Parliament, especially when compared to their counterparts in the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Dr. Nuamah did not mince words in his assessment of the current state of parliamentary representation within his party.
“If you compare the quality of NPP MPs in terms of delivery to the NDC, you could see that the NPP has low quality,” he stated.
“If you follow deliberations in Parliament, you can see that the standard of NPP MPs is going down like a nosedive.”
He attributed the decline to the party’s current approach to electing parliamentary candidates, which he believes prioritises loyalty and financial influence over competence and vision.
According to Dr. Nuamah, the internal primary system often discourages capable individuals from entering Parliament due to the high cost and overly competitive nature of the process. This, he argues, leads to the emergence of candidates who may not be fully prepared for the demands of legislative work.
