The founder of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike has opined that President Akufo-Addo’s decision to buy a new presidential jet solely relies on his selfish interest.
“I can say there is nothing wrong with the presidential jet because it can travel 10 hours non-stop. The President wants to waste the nation’s money. I know this President does not think of the well-being of Ghanaians but only thinks of his comfort.” Odike stated on Oyerepa FM/TV, ‘OBS’ and ‘OBT’ morning show on Wednesday.
His comment is in relation to President Akufo-Addo and the NPP government’s decision to purchase a new Presidential aircraft despite the existence of the nation’s private jet.
He believes that Akufo-Addo wants to compare Ghana to its fellow nation Nigeria which is irrelevant since there are numerous challenges facing the country which need amicable solutions.
“The presidential jet of Nigeria contains a bedroom, washroom, kitchen, and other recreational centers whereas Ghana’s own doesn’t possess such features. The president wants to make life comfortable whenever he travels while students are learning under trees.”
According to Odike, the money of about GH¢638m set to purchase the jet can be used to fix the broken economy of the nation.
“Information reaching me indicates that the presidential jet will cost $105m which is approximated to GH¢638m. This sum of money can be used to promote the nation’s economy but this President doesn’t think of the future of Ghana.” He stated.
Mr. Odike however urged the executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sit up because some decisions and ideologies of president Akufo-Addo is trimming down the party.
