The Chairman of the J.E.A Mills Memorial Heritage, Alex Segbefia, has fiercely defended the legacy of Ghana’s founding father, Kwame Nkrumah, against attempts to compare it to that of current leaders.
Segbefia passionately argued that Nkrumah’s profound impact on African history and his global recognition as the “leader of the millennium” solidify his status as a towering figure in Ghana’s political landscape.
This defence comes in response to recent claims by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s presidential running mate, that President Akufo-Addo has achieved more than any government since 1957.
Mr Alex Segbefia, a former minister of health therefore cautioned against such sweeping statements, emphasizing that history should be the ultimate judge of a leader’s legacy.
The debate highlights the ongoing significance of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, in the country’s political discourse.
While some seek to elevate current leaders, others remain committed to honoring the legacy of the man who paved the way for Ghana’s independence.
