The Okantsuru family of Adenta-La has issued a desperate appeal to the government and Lands Commission to intervene and protect them from the menacing activities of land guards, which are threatening their lives.
At a press conference, Nii Adjetey Okanshan Deputy Family Head highlighted the encroachment on their 80.874-acre titled land in New Amanfro, Adentan Municipality, Greater Accra region.
According to him, Land Guard Activities encroachment began in 2006 but intensified in 2018 with notorious land guard Van Damn, backed by a self-acclaimed chief with political connections. The Police Inaction repeated attempts to ensure law and order have been unsuccessful the land gurds are continue threatening their lives.
The Okantsuru Family urges the government to intervene through the Lands Commission and Boundary Commission to delineate and demarcate land borders between La and Nungua. This would prevent land theft, harassment, and boundary disputes
The conflict centers around land historically belonging to the La community, occupied and sold by entities without authorization.
Nii Laryea Otiajasu I, Akwashongtse of Dedeiman Traditional Area, also made a desperate plea to President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Lands Commission to intervene in the escalating land guard menace threatening his life and property.
According to Nii Otiajasu, land guards have vandalized his house, built five years ago
threatened his life when confronted, the land gurds attacked him and his companions, forcing them to flee for their lives.
The Akwashongtse’s ordeal highlights the growing concern over land guard activities in Ghana especially in the Greater Accra Region need to be solved.
