The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has alleged that president John Dramani Mahama government is not committed to fighting corruption.
The Party is slamming the NDC for resorting to media trials instead of taking concrete legal action against corruption in the courtroom.
According to Mr. Richard Ahingba, National Communications Director of the NPP, the government’s actions have shown a lack of interest in prosecuting corruption cases.
Mr. Ahingba cited the Attorney General’s decision to clear all NDC members standing trial as a landmark decision that demonstrates the government’s lack of commitment to fighting corruption.
He stated that this move was designed to clear the path for the government to target the NPP, their political opponents.
The NPP’s accusations come amid concerns about corruption in Ghana. Former President Mahama has previously denied allegations of wrongdoing in the Airbus scandal, stating that he did not benefit financially from the deal.
Speaking at a press conference Ahingba said
President Mahama pledged to prosecute corrupt government officials if he wins the presidential election.
He emphasized that his commitment to fighting corruption would not be limited to NPP officials alone, but would also target his own appointees if found guilty.
