Professor Grace Nkansah Asante, a senior lecturer at the Department of Economics of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has urged Ghanaians to patronize and consume made-in Ghana goods for the growth of the country’s economy.
“We have to make conscious efforts to buy made-in Ghana goods to save our nation. Let us develop much interest in patronizing our local products. If we want our economy to grow, then, consuming our locally made goods will be the only way because the money we use to import foreign products will remain here.”
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time last Monday, chaired by Bismark Brown, she said the consumption of locally made products will boost industries production since the demand for the goods will be high, hence industries will be able to employ a lot more people thereby reducing the unemployment rate in the country.
“If we consume made-in Ghana products industries will get the opportunity to employ more people because the demand will be high which will curb the rate of unemployment in the society.” Professor Grace Nkansah Asante stated.
However, she urged the government and industries to put value in the Ghanaian local products before exporting them.
According to prices of products depreciate if they are exported in their raw state however if they are exported in a finished state they generate huge revenue to the country.
“Our biggest problem as a nation is how we export our local products. We need to put value in any product we export. We will get enough money when the products are exported in their finished state. The government and industries need to work hard on that”. She added.
