Hopeson Adorye, Director of Operations for the Movement for Change, has made some explosive allegations against Prof Smart Sarpong, a renowned pollster.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time on Wednesday, hosted by Kwesi Parker Wilson, Adorye claimed that Prof Sarpong is, in fact, a communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and has been working closely with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team.
According to Adorye, Prof Sarpong was instrumental in crafting the “It’s Possible” slogan for Bawumia’s campaign, and his survey results should therefore be viewed with scepticism.
Adorye alleged that Prof Sarpong’s survey was not credible, stating that he “stayed in his room and deliberately did that survey.
“Don’t you know Smart Sarpong?
He’s the consultant for It’s Possible (Bawumia). He carved the phrase ‘it’s possible’.
Smart Sarpong is an NPP communicator. I was part of the NPP communication and I know what I’m talking about. His survey is not credible. He stayed in his room and deliberately did that survey. Let’s throw away his research or survey into the dustbin.” Hopeson Adorye alleged.
He added, “Let me tell you, the best poll will happen on Saturday, and it’s going to be a disgrace to Smart Sarpong and his NPP folks, mark it.”
Adorye also aimed at another prominent pollster, Ben Ephson, accusing him of lacking credibility.
Adorye claimed that Ephson’s polls have consistently failed to accurately predict election outcomes and that he was bribed by the NPP in 2016 to change his poll results.
“As for Ben Epson he’s not credible, let’s trash him.
When was the last time his poll came into reality?
In 2016 NPP paid a bribe to Ben Epson and he changed the poll because he had declared earlier that Mahama was going to win. But he changed his mind when NPP caged him in the room and gave him big money.” Hopson Adorye alleged.
Background
The survey conducted by Dr. Smart Sarpong and released on November 23, 2024, revealed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), leading in the presidential election with approximately 49.1% of the total votes cast.
Dr Bawumia’s main competitor, former President John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), trails behind in second place with around 45.8% of the votes.
The study also projected that the leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, would come in third in the election with about 2.2% of the votes, while the leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, would take fourth position with 1.2% of the votes.
“As of November 16, 2024 (four weeks to the elections), NPP’s Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was in a 49.1% lead, NDC’s Mr John Mahama coming next with 45.8%, followed by Nana Kwame Bediako with 2.2%, and Mr John Allan Kyerematen with 1.2%.
“All other candidates put together obtained 1.7% of the votes. It is clear from this report that elections in 2024 can be won in the first round by only one of the two leading political parties, with the NPP having a higher chance of clinching a first-round victory,” excerpts of the study read.
