The President of the Private Security Guard Association of Ghana, Roland Obibah Mensah, has condemned the shooting incident that occurred last Sunday at Kwabenya involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, and her brother Kwadwo Safo.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Mr. Obibah Mensah blamed whoever supplied the firearm to the Kantanka guards and whoever ordered them to shoot.

He said the government must investigate the source of the weapon and the command behind the shooting.

He stressed that it is illegal for private security guards in Ghana to carry guns, except those assigned special duties such as bodyguards for protection.

“No private security guard is permitted to use a firearm in this country unless specifically authorized for special duties,” he said.

On the government’s decision to revoke Kantanka Security’s operating license, Mr. Obibah Mensah appealed to the Interior Minister to reconsider.

He argued that many guards depend on the job for their daily livelihood, and a total ban would leave them stranded. He also urged all security guards on duty to prioritize their own safety and avoid actions that could endanger themselves or others.
