Ghana’s agricultural sector is facing numerous challenges, including low yields and climate change, highlighting the need for a strategic approach to realize its potential.
To address this, Rev. Evans Kyere- Mensah, Co-founder of Ghana Youth Agriculture Summit 2024, has urged all political parties to prioritize agriculture in their conversations and develop a national plan to ensure continuity and progress.
Speaking at the Ghana youth Agriculture summit 2024 at UPSA, he emphasized that Ghana must have a national conversation on agriculture, ensuring a unified approach to achieving food security and sovereignty.
Rev. Mensah’s address emphasized the need for government collaboration to build a national development blueprint, focusing on agricultural growth and community empowerment. He urged for a unified approach, providing vision and direction for sustainable agricultural development.
By adopting this approach, Ghana can achieve food security, economic growth, and sustainable agricultural development.
Mr Tanko Bagbara, the Public Relations Officer of the ministry of Food and Agriculture highlighted the ministry’s dedication to empowering youth for successful agricultural careers.
He emphasized that while the government will provide infrastructure and opportunities, youth-driven innovation and energy are vital to unlocking agriculture’s vast potential.
Mr Tanko, who spoke on behalf of deputy Agric minister Mr Frimpong Addo, says though the government will provide the infrastructure and opportunities, it will take the innovation, energy, and drive from the youth that can elevate agriculture to a new height.
The ministry’s commitment to empowering youth in agriculture is crucial for Ghana’s economic development. With agriculture projected to grow, the sector is expected to play a significant role in driving economic transformation and job creation.
The 2024 Ghana Youth Agriculture Summit, themed ‘Transforming Agriculture for Sustainable Growth through Innovation, Empowering Youth, Women, and Climate Action,’ witnessed unprecedented participation from youth groups across the nation.
