Entrepreneur, Mr. Spencer Tweneboah Korankye has urged universities throughout Ghana to prioritize entrepreneurship education. By doing so, students will be better equipped to create their own job opportunities after graduation.
It’s a well-known fact that over 800,000 graduates are produced annually in Ghana, yet only 10% of them secure direct employment. This leaves a staggering 90% of graduates unemployed.
Mr Tweneboah believes that the high unemployment rate in the country could be significantly reduced if universities placed a greater emphasis on teaching students entrepreneurship skills.
He said entrepreneurship education is crucial for the future of Ghana’s workforce. And by prioritizing this type of education, universities can help to reduce the unemployment rate and create a brighter future for all.
“Over 800, 000 Students complete university every year in Ghana. Only 10% get direct jobs.
So it means that the remaining 90% would have to create employment for themselves. When you look at this huge figure it’s just about 1% of them who wants to do business. I think university students need more entrepreneurship education and when they’re taught properly, a lot of them would be able to create their own jobs after school.” The experienced Entrepreneur made the statement in an interview with Oyerepa News at a day seminar for over 600 KNUST College of Science Students, yesterday, organised by HIVE Blockchain on the theme, ‘Introduction to Web3; The Next Generation of Internet’.
He however advised students to look for job opportunities immediately after they enter the university.
“Since there is a high rate of unemployment in Ghana, you must start looking for work the very first time you enter university. If do so before you graduate you might have gotten a job.”
“If you have the knowledge and capability to run a business, you must also start immediately after you get into university. Before you graduate, you would already have a job.” He added.
Hive Blockchain Web3
Speaking about the introduction of a new Internet technology (Web3), Mr Anaman Philip, HIVE Blockchain Project Coordinator explained that his team deemed it necessary to create Web3 in order to expand the technological knowledge of young people and to utilize their platform, (HIVE Blockchain) to promote businesses.
Web3 is an innovative technology that has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with the Internet
He added that HIVE Blockchain recognizes the importance of promoting businesses and supporting economic growth. If students or stakeholders leverage their platform, they can provide a valuable service to businesses looking to expand their reach and connect with new customers, because Web3, HIVE Blockchain is poised to become a major player in the world of online commerce.
“We realised that there’s a high rate of unemployment in Ghana, so we have created Web3 for students to start businesses via this Hive Blockchain platform. It will help them to get money as well as promote their businesses.
“As we’re in a new era of digitisation, we’ve created Web3 to facilitate people’s knowledge of technology. ” Anaman Philip said.
Some KNUST Computer and IT students who spoke to Oyerepa News expressed appreciation for the knowledge impacted in them.
They said the new technology will help them to establish businesses to reduce unemployment in Ghana.
