Ghanaians should expect an increase in the prices of goods and commodities from September, the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has warned.

According to TAGG, the failure of the Ministry of Transport to comply with a High Court ruling to maintain the $720 shipment fee on containers has made it unsustainable for businesses to keep prices stable.

Speaking to the media, the President of TAGG, Kwadwo Amoateng, said the Transport Minister must work with its agencies, including the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, to ensure full compliance with the court’s directives.

He said TAGG cannot continue to be a “Father Christmas” and absorb high operational costs while government and revenue agencies impose what he described as “atrocious and ridiculous” increments on imports.

Mr. Amoateng called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene to prevent a further increase in the cost of living.
