President John Mahama has nominated Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
Dr. Baidoo, an experienced orthopaedic surgeon at KATH’s Department of Surgery, is known for his work in managing both orthopaedic and trauma cases.
The nomination was formally communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama. The letter was addressed to the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, with instructions to initiate the necessary processes to formalize the appointment in line with the
Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 525), as amended.
Dr. Baidoo is set to take over from Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, who was relieved of his duties last week. Prof. Addai-Mensah had served as CEO since 2022, during which time he championed several strategic initiatives, including major infrastructure developments under the Asantehene’s Heal KATH project.
Dr. Baidoo’s appointment is expected to bring renewed focus to the hospital’s clinical and administrative leadership as it continues its efforts to expand and improve healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
